About the Role

The Yamaha Marine Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Yamaha outboard engines—from 20HP kickers to large offshore models. Work includes routine services, mechanical repairs, rigging, repowers, and pre-delivery inspections for Jeanneau and Bennington boats.

Key Responsibilities

Yamaha Outboard Service & Repair

  • Perform scheduled maintenance (20 hr, 100 hr, 300 hr, annual)
  • Diagnose mechanical/electrical issues using Yamaha OEM methods
  • Troubleshoot fuel, ignition, charging, and cooling systems
  • Replace powerheads, lower units, pumps, thermostats, and electrical components
  • Conduct compression and leak-down testing
  • Perform software updates and Yamaha YDS/YDIS diagnostics
  • Sea-trial boats and verify performance

Rigging & Installation

  • Install new Yamaha outboards on Jeanneau and Bennington models
  • Rig mechanical and digital (DEC) controls
  • Install and configure Helm Master, Autopilot, and Yamaha CL/SWS displays
  • Build NMEA 2000 networks and integrate Yamaha data

Customer Interaction

  • Work with service writers using Lightspeed DMS
  • Provide accurate notes, parts requests, and recommendations
  • Uphold Norton Yachts’ workmanship standards
  • Assist with customer orientations on new-boat deliveries

General Yard Support

  • Maintain a clean, safe work area
  • Follow Yamaha and marina safety procedures
  • Assist with hauling, launching, and workflow as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years Yamaha outboard service experience (or equivalent)
  • Mechanical/electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with Yamaha service bulletins and OEM processes
  • Ability to use YDS/YDIS diagnostics
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred

  • Yamaha MCA/MCT certification
  • Rigging experience
  • NMEA 2000 knowledge
